Weekend

It was a hustle and bustle Saturday. Shops and hawkers are cranking up with Chinese New Year (CNY) songs and decors are setup at Petaling Street. It seems like everything has happened before. Was it a déjà vu? Nah~ it’s not. We do the same thing every year. We shop for CNY stuffs till the very last minute, as usual. It’s not done yet and will be continued on the following weekends. Woot ~

Textile shop. My favourite shop where I enjoy looking at the patterns, colours, feeling the textures and think what can I do with this and that? It’s so beautiful. I bought 2 pieces of polkadot cloth. Thinking to make a few sets of bean bags (juggling cubes) to juggle. That’s gonna be my next handcraft work. Yay !!

polkadot

It was a beautiful Sunday but we did not climb. We spent precious time at home with mom and dad and best of all, we made these juggling cubes. Our team work performed pretty well. Thanks, Abner. Let’s keep it up.

And let’s see who juggles better and the winner wears the pants !! Woohoo ~~

Soft Toy Postcard

Evonne: Mel, come and see this!! I bought a few of it.

And so it catched my attention. For the first time I got sooo excited over soft toys. Soft toy postcards that it is. I was at the rotating slat panel display for about 15-20 minutes, choosing for my favourite ones with fascination. I really like the idea where recipients can peel the cloth off and turn it into a soft toy. It’s so adorable. 🙂

I wanted to get a giraffe and a whale but it was out of stock. 🙁 So I got the pink elephant, monkey, lion and t-shirt rabbit at TWD4 each if I have not mistaken. You can check out the website here for more varieties.

And this cute little pink elephant is now in good hand. Hohoho ~

Incomplete

painting

I have yet to complete with this painting. I wanted to finish it so badly but I’ve got emails. Loads of them. Am getting nervous as I have gotta tie up some, some? hmmm some loose ends before my holidays. Fingers crossed that I can finish this over the weekend. *cross…cross…cross…*

And yeah, am excited at the same time too but I have not get my stuffs prepared and have not packed for my trip just yet. My oh my… am in a very ‘kelam-kabut’ and beatles mode now. *grinzzz*

Back to the 60s

I personally agree that polka dot will not get out of vogue no matter what the trend and era is. Yup, it’s so famous back in the 60s. I’m not sure if I have ever mention that I got inspired by the 60s. The decade that brought us flower power, hippies, bell bottom, hot pants, mini skirts, polka dot, Audrey Hepburn skinny jeans, Beatles suit for the men and the list goes on. Where were you when all these were happening? If a genie could grant me a wish, I wish that I could turn back time and live in the 60s. *Erm… can I have more wishes ??* 😛

While I was experimenting some new flowers for my accessories projects, I realized that my obsessions have recently expanded to involve headbands. I’ve the designs of the headband sketched. Done some drafting and finger crossed things will turn out well.

The elastic headband below is 100% handmade of polka dot and solid navy blue cotton. With the perfect match of the newly-experimented-flowers, it brings everything to perfection.

Have a lolli-lollipop Birthday!

I would like to say thank you to an ol’friend of mine, Joanna for her trust in me and giving me such a great time to create a scrapbook as a birthday gift to her hubby, Brian.

It was fun looking for materials, getting the ideas and best of all, I can do some sewing as you can see on its cover. 😀

This book contains sweet memories of the couple and the new journey of life with their new born princess, Ashley. To personalized this impeccable-handmade-gift (ahem), I got Joanna to hand written the poems and messages to Brian on the prepared space. Mmm… mmm… sweet-kan? To enhance the taste of sweetness, there it goes a lollipop made of felt fabric.

A very belated lollipop xxth birthday to Brian !! 😀

Finally BLACK

Inevitable, life is like a roller coaster ride. Been riding out the ups and downs for the past 2 weeks. Sincerely appreciate the experience and learn from it, definitely. 🙂

YEAAAP !! Black is my all time favorite color. Am trying to source for more materials to mix and match where my upcoming projects are all gonna be in hair accessories. Gawd… hopefully I don’t need to drag for another couple of weeks to update my post. Fingers crossed.

I’m experimenting a few different kind of flowers and here’s one of it. Black Chiffon Flower on a Double-Elastic-Headband. Am lovin’ it !! 😀

Paper doll dress up

I have been thinking for quite some times how to blog about this cheongsam of mine till Winnie visited my blog. On a whim, China paper dolls came across my mind. I heart paper dolls when I was younger. I created each character of hand drawn paper dolls and dress them up with my designs as part of my homework. And here I am doing my homework. 😀

It was love at first sight. I knew right away what I’m gonna do with this cotton, japenese patterns fabric when I first saw it from the display shelves. Yes, my ever first cheongsam.

It’s a huge progress in making a cheongsam where the mandarin collar is the most technical part. What I enjoy most is making the chinese frog buttons. I called it “yao jah guai” buttons. I designed my cheongsam with cut-in sleeveless, ‘A’ line skirt, key hole, knee length, an invisible zipper on the centre of the back side and one hand-made frog button is decorated on the mandarin collar. This simple yet elegant cheongsam can be made a new look for a big party. I believe you’ll be more confident in any shows.

psst… Cheongsam is known in Mandarin as qípáo (旗袍). 😀

Vintage Millinery

Have been busy bee lately and I can hardly find extra time to pay full concentration on my kids wear project. But hey, I have a pretty-back-dated-but-not-so-back-dated dress I made a month back for lil’Meg. You know what? I love seeing her on this knee length, beautifully pleating at the front dress made of 100% vintage flowery printed cotton. Oh, how can I forget the matching cotton eyelet lace from the 60’s that I admire most? This is such a cute and casual one just waiting for a fabulous summer event.

Come Meg. Party time !! Weee…
